Signs of Child Neglect

This week’s FREE tool is a figure to help you recognize the signs of child neglect. Child neglect results from a caregiver’s failure to meet a child’s basic needs. It is the most common form of child maltreatment, especially in the United States. Because the definition of neglect is broad, it can be difficult to determine when neglect has occurred. This week’s tool identifies the five different types of child neglect and the common signs of each in early childhood. The figure comes from “Addressing Challenging Behaviors and Mental Health Issues in Early Childhood,” a CEC book that provides strategies for managing behaviors and promoting mental health and resilience in young children who behave in challenging ways. CEC’s Tool of the Week is a free resource designed to support you in your special education practice. Subscribe and it’ll be automatically delivered to your inbox!  Get your Tool of the Week.
