What School Counselors Need to Know About Special Education and Students With Disabilities

P6153-cover

School counselors wear many hats, so this week’s FREE tool is a flow chart to help these everyday super heroes wear their special education hat more easily. The chart provides a quick view of the role school counselors can play to support teachers, students and families as a student moves through the eligibility process for special education. The chart is broken into four sections to help illustrate the process.

The sections include: general education, before evaluation, during evaluation, and after the eligibility decision. This tool comes from CEC’s What School Counselors Need to Know About Special Education and Students With Disabilities, an essential guidebook for school counselors whose profession has evolved in the past decade along with the increased and changing demands of special education.
